278a Whitegate Drive,
Athena is our provision for students who access the "Home and Hospital Education Service". The young people who attend here are usually referred by schools and medical professionals and the aim is to support with emotional, medical or social issues. As in all of our settings, students are taught in small groups within a calm environment where the young people are given the opportunity to gain confidence and thrive. Each young person is at the heart of the process and through a coordinated approach with a range of professionals, we are able to deliver personalised programmes to meet their individual needs.
Students who attend Athena usually remain dual registered with their mainstream settings, in agreement with their parents / carers initially for a six week period, allowing us to assess their ability to successfully reintegrate back into school. We have just moved this provision into another Centre, to provide larger learning areas with improved access to ICT and outdoor activities to support with their emotional well being. A branch of Athena provides home tuition for those young people who are unable to access a centre due to medical or social issues and we also have a classroom at the hospital enabling continuity of learning during their hospital stay.
" My daughter has loved every minute here and she feels understood for the very first time. She is looking forward to going to college. I cannot believe the difference in her".
