Uniform Expectations

At Educational Diversity, we encourage pupils to wear a smart, practical, and affordable uniform that helps them feel comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.

We believe that maintaining high standards of appearance supports our young people as they prepare for successful reintegration into mainstream education and, ultimately, the world of work. By promoting expectations that reflect those found in mainstream schools and workplaces, we help remove potential barriers and encourage positive habits, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Uniform items are widely available and can be purchased from local supermarkets, clothing retailers, and school uniform suppliers, helping to keep costs manageable for families.

Support for Families

At Educational Diversity, we do not operate a second-hand uniform shop. However, whenever pre-loved uniform items become available, they are offered free of charge to students and families who may benefit from them, ensuring support is accessible to those who need it.

If a pupil arrives at school without the expected uniform, we are able to provide a clean spare uniform for them to borrow during the school day.

We understand that families may sometimes experience financial difficulties. If you are having difficulty purchasing school uniform, please contact us. We will work with you to find a solution and discuss any support available in a sensitive and confidential manner.

School Uniform

Pupils are expected to wear:

  • A plain white polo shirt
  • A plain black jumper (non-branded)
  • Plain black school trousers or a plain black skirt

Footwear

Pupils should wear:

  • Plain black footwear
  • Shoes or trainers must be entirely black, with no coloured logos, markings, or flashes

Hairstyles

Hairstyles should be appropriate for a school environment. Any restrictions will be reasonable, proportionate, and applied fairly, taking into account pupils' cultural, racial, and religious identities.

Jewellery

Jewellery is limited to:

  • One pair of stud earrings
  • One wristwatch (smart watches are not permitted)

Facial piercings are not permitted in school.

Nails

Nails should be:

  • Short and practical for school
  • Natural in appearance
  • Free from coloured nail varnish

If acrylic nails are worn, they must:

  • Be short in length
  • Be natural in colour
  • Have a rounded tip

Make-up

Make-up should be minimal and natural in appearance. False eyelashes are not permitted.

Students who do not meet these expectations may be asked to remove their make-up using wipes provided by the school.

PE Kit

On days when pupils have Physical Education, they should attend school wearing their PE kit.

Our non-branded PE kit consists of:

  • Plain black PE shorts, tracksuit bottoms, or joggers
  • Plain white T-shirt or polo shirt
  • Plain black jumper
  • Black trainers

Mobile Devices

We encourage pupils not to bring mobile devices into school, including mobile phones, tablets, and smart watches.

If a pupil chooses to bring a device into school, it must be handed to a member of staff at the start of the school day and will be returned at the end of the day.
