Dear Parents and Carers,

RE: Maintaining a Respectful School Environment

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to address a matter of great importance concerning the behaviour expected within our school community. Recently, there have been incidents where some parents have raised their voices and used inappropriate language towards our staff members. Additionally, there have been instances of parents filming and voice recording staff and students on school premises without permission. Such actions are deeply concerning and do not align with the respectful and supportive environment we strive to maintain.

Our staff members are dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to provide a safe, nurturing, and productive learning environment for your children. They deserve to be treated with the same level of respect and courtesy that we expect students to show each other and the adults in our school.

We understand that as parents and guardians, you are deeply invested in your child's education and well-being. However, it is essential to maintain a respectful and constructive dialogue when addressing concerns or issues with school staff. Raising voices, using offensive language, and recording without consent are not acceptable and can create a hostile environment that negatively impacts our school community.

We understand that there can be moments of frustration or disagreement, but it is crucial that all interactions between parents and staff are conducted in a respectful and constructive manner. If you have concerns or issues, we encourage you to reach out through the appropriate channels, and we are committed to addressing them promptly and professionally.

To ensure a safe and positive environment for all students, staff, and parents, we ask for your cooperation in the following:

1. Scheduled Appointments: If you wish to discuss any concerns or issues, please schedule an appointment with the relevant staff member. This ensures that discussions can be held in a calm and private setting.

2. No Unauthorised Recording: Filming or voice recording staff and students without prior consent is strictly prohibited. This is to protect the privacy and dignity of everyone on school grounds. Any such incidents will be taken seriously and may result in appropriate actions being taken.

3. Code of Conduct: We will be reinforcing our code of conduct for all visitors, which includes guidelines on respectful communication and behaviour.

4. Support and Mediation: If necessary, we will provide in school support and mediation services to facilitate effective communication and resolution of any conflicts.

We believe that by working together and maintaining open lines of communication, we can address any concerns constructively and uphold the values of respect and cooperation within our school community.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Let us all work together to ensure that our school remains a positive and respectful environment for everyone.

Warm regards,

Victoria O’Farrell
