Careers Leadership and Strategy

The Headteacher Victoria O’Farrell is the Senior Leader with careers responsibility who links with the Senior leadership Team, the Careers Lead and the Management Committee. Careers is a priority development area for the Senior Leadership Team and in the School Improvement Plan.

The Careers Lead, Vivien Counsell-Thomas holds the Level 7 Careers Leadership qualification and is qualified in Careers Guidance and Development with a Level 6 Diploma.
Our aim is to reflect on practice so that we improve outcomes and get it right for all our young people.

Careers education, information advice and guidance is collaborative between school, employers and the community. It will be inclusive and where possible co-designed.

Quality Assurance

The Careers Lead holds termly meetings with the Enterprise Coordinator to discuss the careers programme allowing for support to be offered in the delivery of upcoming events. At these meetings the Compass tool is completed. This allows the school to evaluate our careers activity against the eight Gatsby Benchmarks of good careers practice. The aim is to achieve 100% delivery across all eight Benchmarks.

Evaluation

Individual careers events are evaluated for effectiveness and to inform the future offer on the careers programme. This is done by collating the attendance names/numbers, engagement levels and knowledge/understanding gained from different categories for attendees (students, parents/carers, providers, employers/employees).

Based on findings the careers programme is reviewed annually in line with the School Improvement Plan.

Impact

The impact of our careers programme is measured through student destinations, engagement with careers activities and feedback from students, parents, employers and education providers.

Our aim is to ensure that every young person leaves Educational Diversity with a clear understanding of their next steps and the confidence to pursue them. Through personalised guidance, employer encounters and exposure to a range of pathways, students develop greater awareness of career opportunities and the skills required for the workplace.

Destination tracking shows that students move on to a range of positive pathways including further education, training and employment. Continuous evaluation of careers activities ensures that the programme evolves to meet the needs of our students and supports them in making informed choices about their futures

To be reviewed in line with the new Academic year September 2026
